For all United segments of less than 500 miles flown on or after January 1, 2009, elite members will earn a minimum of 500 redeemable miles and 500 Elite Qualifying Miles. Flight segments greater than 500 miles in length are not affected by this change. Complete information.

General members will continue to earn actual flight miles on all United flights.

United is a founding member of Star Alliance. The miles you earn on United and United Express can be accrued in Mileage Plus. And the flight miles you earn qualify toward elite status. You earn one Elite Qualifying Mile (EQM) for each flight mile you earn and one Elite Qualifying Segment (EQS) for each segment you fly.

When you fly on United or United Express on a paid ticket in First Class (F, A), Business Class (J, C, D, Z) and unrestricted Economy (Y, B) you earn a 50% EQM/EQS bonus.

	Terms & Conditions Mileage accrual and redemption is possible only on scheduled flights operated by the airline partner. Flights and routes may be changed by the airline partner at short notice. The miles accrued are determined by the operating airline. Please note that the booking class shown on your ticket may differ from the booking class relevant for mileage accrual. Please retain your boarding pass and a copy of your ticket until the mileage credit is reflected on your Mileage Plus statement. Redeem Miles United offers many different options for redeeming your miles. United Saver / Star Alliance awards require fewer miles to travel on the United network or to more than 800 destinations worldwide. Star Alliance awards allow you to choose a combination of carriers for travel and award levels vary only by class of service and region. United Standard awards have flexibility allowing you to fly on United Airlines anytime and in any cabin you request. You can redeem your Mileage Plus® miles to upgrade on United Airlines to the next cabin of service with your paid ticket on select fares.
