You can redeem your Mileage Plus® miles to upgrade on United Airlines to the next cabin of service with your paid ticket on select fares.

For customers departing from France: In accordance with the airline-ticket solidarity tax, effective July 1, 2006, customers upgrading from economy to business class using frequent flyer miles or an upgrade certificate are required to pay the 36€ difference in tax.

  • Upgrades are valid for one class of service.
  • On three-class aircraft, you can upgrade from paid United Economy® to United Business®, or from paid United Business to United First®.
  • On two-class aircraft, you can upgrade from paid United Economy to United First.
  • Upgrade awards are not available on all published fares and are subject to capacity controls.
  • If fare rule permits stopovers, a maximum of 2 stopovers are allowed per award. Awards are one way.
  • For travel within Region 1 (North America, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Central America) upgrade awards can be used with booking classes C, D, Y, B, M, H, Q, V, W, S, K, L and T.
  • For travel outside of Region 1, upgrade awards can be used with booking classes C, D, Y, B, M and H.
  • Upgrade awards may not be used on Mileage Plus award tickets. Some Internet sites, such as Priceline and Hotwire, issue tickets that are not upgradeable. Please check with your Internet site for terms and conditions.
  • Ticket must be issued in the paid class of service before an upgrade is issued.
  • No residual mileage credit willbe given for partially upgraded itineraries.
  • Purchase your ticket online, through United Reservations or through your travel professional.
  • Request your upgrade online or through United Reservations.
  • Upgrade awards shown in the upgrade chart, are for one-way travel.
  • Travel on code share flights operated by other airlines is excluded.
  • When United award travel originates in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe or Latin America and entails routing via the U.S., two awards are required: one to/from the U.S., and another between the U.S. and your final destination.
