- must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin;
- must not be more than 9 x 14 x 22 inches (23 x 35 x 56 cm) or 45 linear inches* (114 linear cm); and
- may be required to travel as checked baggage if the bag cannot be safely stowed on your flight.
The following items are not counted toward your one bag and one personal item limit:
- Overcoat or wrap
- Umbrella
- A reasonable amount of reading material
- Pet carrier (fees apply)
- A collapsible wheelchair
- Child restraint seat meeting FAA approval standards
- Camera
- Diaper bag
- A limited amount of duty-free, merchandise or food purchased at the airport
- Assistive devices (a cane, one set of crutches, prescription medications and any medical devices needed to administer the medications, a portable oxygen concentrator (POC), etc.)
Please note: All carry-on items must be stowed under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. Items may not be stowed in the seat back pocket. Any item in excess of carry-on baggage size or allowance as listed above will be checked to your final destination and may be subject to applicable checked baggage fees.

TSA’s website at www.tsa.gov.

Liquids, gels and aerosols
Liquids, gels and/or aerosols are permitted through security checkpoints worldwide. Items must fit in one clear, resealable quart- or liter-sized plastic bag, in containers of 3 oz. (100 mL) or less. (For ease of memory, please follow the 3-1-1 rule.)
Plastic bags must be completely sealed and will be x-rayed separately at the security checkpoint.
The following items are allowed but must be presented to officials at security checkpoints if they are of greater volume than 3 oz. (100 mL):
- Baby formula/milk, including breast milk and baby food in containers. You do not have to be traveling with a baby or small child for these items to be allowed.
- Medications (liquid, gel or aerosol)
- Liquids, juices or gels for diabetic passengers who indicate a need for such items to address their medical condition. (A letter from your physician is not necessary.)
Liquids, gels and/or aerosols (including duty-free items) purchased in the boarding area are permitted onboard the aircraft.
If you are connecting to another flight and are required to reenter through a security checkpoint, the regulations outlined above will apply, and no exemption will be made for items you purchased in the boarding area of your originating city.
For more information about carry-on items prohibited by the TSA, please see the TSA’s prohibited items list. For more information about medically necessary items that may be exempt from TSA’s prohibitions, please visit the TSA website’s Travelers with Disabilities and Medical Conditions section.

Travel to or from Canada
Carrying incapacitating sprays, liquids, or powders has always been prohibited by Canadian law. United would like to remind our customers of these restricted items, which include but are not limited to mace, pepper spray (including bear and dog sprays), capsicum, and tear gas. Again, these items are prohibited in Canada, and anyone carrying them may be subject to legal action.
